Moving to Florianópolis — or anywhere else in Brazil — begins with legalization. While the country offers dozens of visa programs (from VITEM I to VITEM XIV), in practice, only a few main pathways work for remote workers, investors, and long-term travelers.
Below is a breakdown of the most popular strategies for moving to Brazil in 2026: income requirements, restrictions, the ability to bring your family, and the path to permanent residency (PR) and citizenship.
1. The Baseline: Tourist Stamp (up to 180 days)
For citizens of most European countries, the US, Canada, Australia, and many others, a preliminary visa to enter Brazil is not required.
At the border, you receive a free stamp for 90 days. A couple of weeks before this period expires, you have the right to visit a Federal Police (Polícia Federal) station and extend your stay for another 90 days by paying a small fee (around R$ 110).
- Total: You can stay in Brazil for 180 days within a single calendar year.
